Diàlogo Bookend

Design on request for Angosta Editores. It was created to accompany the publisher's new publications at the 2018 Guadalajara Book Fair.A dialogue is a conversation between two or more actors who present their ideas and comments alternatively to reach an understanding. This was our starting point for the exploration, where we faced elements that were complementary and opposed in their functionality, as well as in their aesthetics and materiality, in order to find a point of coincidence that would make them a unique object.

We chose folded steel to fulfill the structural function and turned solid wood as the aesthetic piece that closes and concludes, exchanging solids and voids, proportions and colors.
The manufacture of the wooden piece is carried out by local turners with whom we work together until we find the most efficient process in terms of costs, time and difficulty.
The two models bookends are the same piece of wood and are machined together as a complete cylinder in order to be machined on a table lathe. The entire manufacturing process is handmade by local carpenters.
